ABOUT MY BACKGROUND

Areas of Interest and Expertise

I provide individual psychotherapy for issues related to relationships and life transitions (divorce, parenting, aging), addictions, mood disorders, trauma and abuse, and cross-cultural adjustment.  In the forensic, or court-related arena, I conduct psychological evaluations (Juvenile, Criminal, and Immigration courts).

Education

I am an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, at Yale School of Medicine.  I received my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University in New York.  My pre-doctoral internship was at the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine. I received my MA/ EdM  in (Cross-Cultural) Counseling Psychology  from Teachers College, Columbia University in NY.  My  BA in Psychology was from the College of William and Mary, in Virginia.

Professional Experience

I have been in private practice in Westport, CT  for over 25 years. I am currently Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale School of Medicine, where I supervise pre- and post doctoral Psychology Fellows.  Previously  I worked in the field of addictions  in New  York City , as well as providing intensive psychotherapy at the Karen Horney Clinic.  At Yale I worked as clinician and supervisor in several psychotherapy research studies in Substance Abuse treatment.

Languages/ Culture

I speak Portuguese and Spanish, having been born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brasil.  Being multi-cultural allows me to accept different ways of being and acting.

Licensure and Professional Affiliations

I am a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the APA Division of Addictions (Division 50), Trauma Psychology (Division 56),  International Psychology (Division 52),  the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA), and CPA Forensic Division. I am also a member of CATSO-  Connecticut Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders.  I am licensed as a psychologist in the State of Connecticut (License CT 002080).
